
Ross McClelland says to grasp the Large Yin has observed his stand-up is implausible
Rosco McClelland has gained this 12 months’s Sir Billy Connolly “Spirit of Glasgow” Award on the town’s comedy pageant.
The Glaswegian comedian gained a different video message from Sir Billy as he picked up his award.
Referencing a shaggy dog story McClelland tells about slugs in boxes, Sir Billy advised him: “Congratulations to Rosco McClelland – the slug nudger! Smartly completed.”
The award was once introduced on the pageant’s comedy gala display, which was once held on the King’s Theatre.
McClelland mentioned he felt delighted and honoured to boost an award named after and judged through Sir Billy.
He advised BBC Scotland Information: “To understand that the Large Yin himself has observed me do stand-up is implausible.
“I began about 10 years in the past and not idea it will come to anything else like this. So I am so happy and satisfied.
“It is implausible to grasp that you are preferred and revered and other people admire your paintings.”
He added: “I was a plumber after which someday I assumed, I am ill of making a living – let’s get a profession within the arts. Horrible concept however it is paying off now.”
The former winners of the award were Glasgow comedians Susie McCabe and the overdue Janey Godley.
McCabe was once joined through Scottish comedy icon Elaine C. Smith in delivering this 12 months’s award.
A panel of judges from plenty of fields debated the winner ahead of sending their ideas to Sir Billy, who then made the overall choice.
Sir Billy advised McClelland: “I want you all of the best possible, I’m hoping your profession is going bouncing from power to power and that the Glasgow humour is going bounding from power to power, as it’s going to.”

The award, presented in 2023, is meant to praise a person who maximum personifies the “spirit of Glasgow”.
Different nominees for this 12 months’s honour had been Craig Hill, Kim Blythe, Marjolein Robertson, Paul Black, Scott Agnew and Viv Gee.
Glasgow Comedy Competition director Krista MacDonald described McClelland as “one among Scotland’s brightest comedic voices” who has been entertaining audiences for over a decade.
She added: “To peer a homegrown Glaswegian ability like Rosco be honoured with 2025’s Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow Award is an actual testomony to his onerous paintings and dedication to his craft.
“Rosco embodies all this is remarkable about Glasgow and its comedy scene; a daring and courageous logo of comedy, an unprecedented resilience and heat and, above all else, an unfailing need to make other people snigger.”
